Our practice

One of Chula Vista's most established practices — and one of its most modern.

Dr. Javier Raygada has led this Chula Vista office since 2009, bringing modern digital dentistry to a location patients have trusted for decades. Before him, Dr. John O'Neill built the practice's reputation here starting in 1980. In more than 40 years, this address has had just two dentists — a level of continuity that's rare, backed today by up-to-date care. That continuity is already extending into the next generation: his daughter, Dr. Patricia Raygada-Rabanal, now sees patients here as well, carrying the same patient-first philosophy forward.

Today the practice offers preventive care, restorative and cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and overdentures, and digital dentistry — including intraoral scanning and digital impressions — all from the same Chula Vista location patients have trusted for decades.

Our doctors and dental assistants speak Spanish, and when a call comes in in Spanish, our front desk immediately brings a Spanish-speaking assistant to the phone. A translator is always by your side during your visit as well.

Meet the team

The people behind your care.

Dr. Javier Raygada built his career over more than three decades — starting in Peru, where he earned his degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 1988, and continuing in the U.S. after completing his board preparation at UCLA. Following several years caring for underserved patients in East San Diego, he and his wife, Dr. Teresa Rabanal, opened a practice together in Lemon Grove in 2007. He has led this Chula Vista office since 2009. His clinical focus includes cosmetic dentistry, fixed prosthodontics and dental implants. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and the San Diego County Dental Society.

His daughter, Dr. Patricia Raygada-Rabanal, is a third-generation dentist who sees patients here in Chula Vista every Wednesday. She earned her undergraduate degree from UC San Diego, a Master's in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh, and her dental degree from the University of New England College of Dental Medicine in 2021. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and the San Diego County Dental Society.

Joyce Van Berkum, Office Manager

Rounding out the team is our office manager, Joyce Van Berkum, who brings more than 40 years of dental office experience — deep expertise that means most billing, insurance and scheduling questions get answered on the spot. She's often the first friendly voice you'll hear when you call to schedule.

She has worked in dentistry for more than three decades, in every role in the office, from receptionist to dental assistant, so she understands each step of your visit. Outside the office, she is also a brand-new grandmother.
